nature documentaries of the 1970s used synthesizer music to score messages about species endangerment and environmental disaster prevention. electronic instrumentation was in itself an ominous warning of the reckless advancement of technology and an effort to audition a utopian harmony between people and machines and nature.

copenhagens music for dreams comes with yet another strong release - a double album of personal favourites compiled by jan schulte. according to all maps and witness accounts, germany does not officially have any tropical forests. this is of no concern to schulte however, who has unearthed many stunning examples of tropical drum music recorded there. perhaps the number of botanical gardens and palm houses in germany confused musicians into mistaking the climate, or maybe it was just a happy blend of escapism and multi-cultural integration within musical scenes that spawned such a curious output of undefinable tribal folk jazz. most of the tracks picked by schulte were released on small labels in the late 80 s. the musicians involved were mainly traditionally schooled, born and raised in germany. at that time to be interested in foreign folk music might have seemed a gimmick to some, what with the emerging -world music boom- already snowballing into the mainstream. but these songs, while they may be based on musical traditions from foreign lands, deal much more with introspection than exploitation. schulte himself points to his -general fascination for music that describes places where the artists have never been. songs about the jungle or the rainforest made by people that know the rainforest only from television and books. somehow i think you can hear their mythical imagination and fantasy in those tracks,- he explains....

all source material recorded in gran paradiso, july 2015 engineered at odd phasing and echoes, amsterdam nl photography bjnilsen bjnilsen is a composer and sound artist based in amsterdam. his work primarily focuses on the sounds of nature and how they affect humans. recent work has explored the urban acoustic realm and industrial geography in the arctic region of norway and russia. his original scores and soundtracks have featured in theatre, dance performances and film. celebrating 27 years as a recording artist massif trophies is the first solo release for editions mego. in 2015 he set off on a month long hiking trip in gran paradiso to explore the acoustic environments in the alpine landscape. drawn to the monotonous and physical effort that mountains and high altitudes contributes, this became one of the main inspirations for the album, reflecting upon the perception of the landscape during several hours of physical difficulty, let alone rapid weather changes, horizontal thunderstorms and rock avalanches. it is also about the scope of details and perception of the path and the myth of the mountain as the accursed or sacred place. the five pieces contains narratives based on experiences and recordings from the trip.

olim in latin can be used to indicate a time in the past or in the future. it can mean �once upon a time� and �someday in the future�. a name and a project to try to move away from trends and genres, by taking inspiration from the past but at the same time leaving it, moving forward to shape a different and more narrative sound. the first attempt to do so is recursively: an 8 track album, opening with a sentence from bunny marrett sampled from an old documentary about st paul�s and the jamaican immigration in bristol during the 80�s. inspired by those intro words, recursively is a journey born from many years moving around, packing and unpacking suitcases, leaving villages, finding cities,leaving friends and finding more, emigrating, integrating. it�s a story about an entire generation trying to find the peace somewhere, somehow, sometimes by repeating the same steps in a loop of actions which seem to be the same but ultimately never are. it�s a soundtrack of those feelings and at the same time a message of hope to continue the journey through the faith that the meaning is the infinite journey itself. an infinite loop masterfully represented in carol rollo�s illustration. a story to be continued.

its clear from the opening seconds of tu fawnings debut full length, hearts on hold, that theres something very, very different about this portland, oregon band. the two note trumpet refrain of >multiply a house< that echoes like the distant sound of a battlefield, the ghostly chanting writhing around it as though in a trance, the funereal drums that boom in the background and the harmonies emerging as the chorus unfurls: these are not the sound of your everyday indie rock act.

after the huge success of their first collaboration, doorly and el prevost are back for part two: this time the world touring doorly serves up a hot original that gets remixed by red rack�em and el prevost, while el prevost also serves up an original of his own, all on his own no speakers label. the first ep, featuring a lee foss remix, got support form the likes of paco osuna, solomun and groove armada and this second instalment is set to be just as big this summer. doorly is a dance heavyweight who headlines clubs like space ibiza on his global travels, releases on cajual, hot creations and dirtybird and is no stranger to hitting high places in the charts with his big and infectious sounds. as a dj he is energetic and can make a mark on any dance floor, and so will this new tune, �sonder.� it is six superbly deep and atmospheric minutes of warm, rolling drums and searching synths that bring an intergalactic feel next to twinkling keys. jostling percussion brings a little loose funk and the whole thing is sure to lock in dance floors. el prevost then steps up to remix after 15 years of putting out killer cuts on labels like third ear. his music has made its way into the record bags of tastemakers like steve bug, dj hell and steffi and this excellent remix shows off his singular style again. it is a little tougher and more energetic than the original, with sprinkled hits, rumbling bass and pixelated synth lines dancing about up top. then comes red rack�em, the bergerac boss who had a huge hit with �wonky disco bassline banger� last year. it was one of the tracks of the year and has been followed by an equally brilliant album by this esteemed house veteran. his remix here is big, bouncy and off kilter thanks to its coarse hi hats and punchy rubber drums. great vocal treatment adds more wonkiness and broad synth strokes flesh things out into another sure-fire party starter that sounds like little else. last but not least, el prevost offers up a solitary state mix of his own �temper mental�. it�s a hugely inventive track with great synth modulations burrowing deep into your brain as dancing hi hats and whirring bass encourage you to cut loose and shift freaky shapes. this is a strong ep that really packs a punch across four standout tracks.

500 copies limited edition! flash forward is happy to repress one of kerri chandler s most beautiful records.first come first served ! -black vinyl label boss alan russell first met kerri when alan was writing for echoes magazine and kerri was signed (by a&r man johnnie walker) to champion records in the uk. alan was interviewing dee dee brave at a hotel in west london as part of the promotion for her album on champion which was released in 1991. alan was already familiar with kerri s work such as superlover and set if off and with his productions on movin records, so asked about kerri and when told that he was also in london as part of the dee dee s tour, the two met and began talking. kerri was slightly surprised that alan knew all of his early releases and the two bonded. they met again in new york when alan was attending the nms (precursor to the wmc in miami) and stayed in touch. years later when alan had started black vinyl the two met again and alan asked if kerri would do something for his label. kerri soon delivered a dat containing these three tracks. the track my old friend was originally titled for my old friend alan , which alan shortened so it would look better on the label! the rest, as they say, is history.-

quazarz came to the earth from somewhere else, a musical ambassador from his place to ours. somehow, through fire or through fury, the palaceer of shabazz palaces caught wind of the tale, and it is through his prism that we hear the story. the beach was there, and atlaantiis, and chemical alterations and cell memories and andre norton, richard k. morgan, and always octavia butler. there were killings and there were votes, and brutality in both. there was sound and there were other worlds, and there was a vastness so participation sometimes came only at the edges. and the palaceer coasted down with the alien notion, like quazarz, and so became. on quazarz when they look at this place they see the inhabitants, the humans, but they don�t assess as we do. and so quazarz was sent to meet a cat with vibration, a creative and courageous, caring, compassionate dude that stood out. the dude was a drug dealer, but that was neither here nor there, until his dealings squashed the rendezvous, leaving our alien alone to figure out what this place is really all about. the vinyl release includes a download code.

we re very proud to announce the release of a new series of records, between modern retro-futuristic library music and idm, inaugurated by the fabulous bill vortex! also known as poborsk for about 20 years, patrice curtillat is one of the spearheads of the idm in france. he has been released on prestigious labels such as icasea (team doyobi), central processing unit, or flogsta danshall, and he is the cofounder of the skweee label mazout, so autechre were right by choosing him as the first part in lyon during their last french tour. recognized by his peers from scandinavia to england, he is a discreet but brilliant producer of the stamp of labels like skam or warp, with in addition a typical marseilles balearic touch. in this new project he reconnects with his old loves : funk, breakdance, house oldschool ... always keeping his inimitable style made of granular grooves, and pentatonic melodies in a sunny atmosphere. his -feelgood music- is the ideal soundtrack for a science fiction series, a 4g tv report, or a motorcycle race.

restive plaggona is the music project of the corfu-based artist dimitris doukas �also producing under matriarchy roots, leftina osha and plaggona-. after releasing a series of cassettes in different labels along 2016 and 2017 �including his own several minor promises- �leaving the body� arrives as an electronic composition of beats and synthesizer bodies disguised as a sense of provocation and mystery. each of the seven pieces offers more than a smattering of interesting textures separated by spans of great decline, but a master class of permutations in-between accompanying sounds, stretching rhythms and viscera-and- violence noises. driven by a deeply expressive narrative, restive plaggona makes a strong statement about his post-industrial vision adding technoid inclinations in a delightful dystopian world.
